• Chi è Angela Marsons, raccontaci di te. 
•  Who is Angela Marsons, talk us about her. 
• I am 48 years old and live in the Black Country with my partner and our bouncy labrador. We also have a parrot that has a very interesting and varied vocabulary. I discovered my love for words at a very young age through reading until my early teens when I realised I wanted to be the one telling the stories. I began writing short stories and eventually novels, completing my first one in my twenties. 
• Ho 48 anni e vivo nella Black Country con la mia compagna e il nostro vivace Labrador. Abbiamo anche un pappagallo che ha un vocabolario ampio e molto interessante. Ho scoperto il mio amore per le parole molto piccola attraverso la lettura, fino ai miei anni da teenager, quando ho realizzato di voler essere colei che raccontava la storia. Ho iniziato scrivendo piccole storie e alla fine romanzi, completando il mio primo romanzo durante i miei vent'anni.

• Perché, tra tanti generi, hai scelto di scrivere thriller? 
• Why, among so many genres, you chose to write thriller? 
• I didn’t write thrillers at the beginning. At first I wrote relationship dramas and character driven stories. I love to read crime and thriller books but never thought I would be able to master the plotting and pace. Eventually I gave it a try to prove to myself that I couldn’t do it and that is how Silent Scream was born. From that point I was hooked on writing crime stories. 
• Non scrivevo thriller all'inizio. Inizialmente scrivevo di relazioni drammatiche e storie incentrate sui personaggi. Amo leggere gialli e thriller ma non ho mai pensato che sarei stata capace di padroneggiare la trama e il ritmo. Alla fine ci ho provato per dimostrare a me stessa che non potevo farlo e così è nato "Urla nel silenzio". Da quel momento sono stata presa dallo scrivere storie del crimine.

• I libri sono ambientati nella Black Country, luogo in cui vivi. Perché hai scelto di ambientare le vicende lì e non in un luogo inventato? 
• The setting of the books is the Black Country, where you live. Why have you choose to settle the events there and not in a fictional place? 
• I spent many years writing books that were set in areas that I thought publishers would like. I often set my books in big cities where I have never lived. When I decided to write Silent Scream I decided to write the book that I wanted to write which included basing the story in my own area. 
• Ho passato molti anni a scrivere libri ambientati in zone che pensavo gli editori avrebbero apprezzato. Spesso ambientavi i miei libri in grandi città dove non avevo mai vissuto. Quando ho deciso di scrivere "Urla nel silenzio" ho deciso di scrivere il libro che volevo scrivere, il che includeva ambientare la storia nella mia zona.

• È facile scrivere di un personaggio come Kim?  
• It's easy to write about a character like Kim? 
• In some ways it is easy as I feel I know her very well but in other ways she can take over the story. There have been times that I have planned certain scenes or chapters and when I begin to write them I realise that is not how she would act or behave. There is a scene in Silent Scream where Kim climbs over a fence to get to a derelict building. This was not in my original plan but once I began writing it I knew that’s what she would do. 
• In un certo senso è facile perché sento di conoscerla molto bene, altre volte può prendere il controllo della storia. Ci sono state volte in cui avevo pianificato alcune scene o capitoli e quando iniziavo a scriverli realizzavo che non era il modo in cui lei avrebbe agito o si sarebbe comportata. C'è una scena in "Urla nel silenzio" dove Kim scavalca una recinzione per entrare in un edificio abbandonato. Questa scena non c'era nel mio piano originale, ma una volta aver iniziato a scriverlo sapevi che era quello che lei avrebbe fatto.

• Kim farà mai entrare qualcun altro nella sua vita, oltre a Barney? 
• Will Kim ever allowed someone to make part of her life, as well as Barney? 
• That I can’t answer as I don’t plan her journey to that degree. I write what feels right at the time so her long-term journey is as much a mystery to me as it is to everyone else. 
• A questa domanda non posso rispondere perché non programmo il suo viaggio a questo livello. Svevo cosa sento giusto al momento, così il suo lungo viaggio è un mistero per me come per qualunque altro.

• Kim all'esterno è una donna forte, ma all'interno è rotta e ha i suoi demoni. Come possono queste due parti di lei completamente differenti sopravvivere insieme? 
• Kim is a strong woman outside, but inside she is broken and she has her demons. How this two completely different part of her can survive together? 
• These two aspects of Kim are able to co-exist because she has made a conscious decision that she will not be beaten by her past. She suffered it and there is nothing she can do to change it but she will not allow herself to give in to the demons. 
• Questi due aspetti di Kim riescono a coesistere perché lei ha deciso di non lasciarsi sconfiggere dal suo passato. Lei ha sofferto e non c'è niente che possa fare per cambiarlo, ma non permetterà a se stessa di abbandonarsi ai suoi demoni.

• Quanto di te c'è in Kim? 
• How much of yourself is in Kim's character? 
• I think part of Kim’s directness comes from me. I worked as a security manager for many years. Managing a large team formed mainly of men requires a certain attitude. I also think that some of the things about which I am passionate come through in Kim’s character too, for example bullying. 
• Penso che parte dell'essere diretta di Kim deriva da me. Ho lavorato come manager per la sicurezza per molti anni. Dirigere un grande team formato per la maggior parte da uomini richiede un certo atteggiamento. Penso anche che alcuni degli argomenti a cui tengo passano anche attraverso il carattere di Kim, come ad esempio il bullismo.

• Quando hai pubblicato il primo romanzo cosa si aspettava dai lettori. Un successo immediato o quello che ha ricevuto è stato inaspettato? 
• When you published your first book, what did you expect? An immediate success or the success you had received was unexpected? 
• When my first book was published I had no idea how it was going to be received. I had been trying to share my work with publishers for 25 years and had faced hundreds and hundreds of rejections. When I signed with my UK publisher Bookouture I held my breath until the day it was released. Part of me thought that all those other publishers had been right and that people would hate it. I remain grateful every day that readers have taken Kim Stone to their hearts. 
• Quando il mio primo libro è stato pubblicato non avevo idea di come sarebbe stato ricevuto. Ho cercato di condividere il mio lavoro con gli editori per 25 anni e ho affrontato moltissimi rifiuti. Quando ho firmato con il mio editore inglese Bookouture ho trattenuto il fiato fino al giorno dell'uscita. Una parte di me pensava che tutti gli altri editori avessero ragione e che le persone lo avrebbero odiato. Sono grata ogni giorno che i lettori abbiano preso Kim Stone a cuore.

• Quando ti hanno contattata per proporti di portare il romanzo in Italia, qual è stata la tua reazione? 
• When the Italian editors first contact you, what have been your first reaction? 
• Italy was one of the first countries to express an interest in the Kim Stone books. Never in a million years did I think that other countries would be interested in publishing my books. It has been an amazing experience and although the books are now being translated into 18 different languages I receive more fabulous messages from Italian readers than any other country. And I enjoy receiving every single one of them. 
• L'Italia è stata uno dei primi paese a esprimere interesse nei libri di Kim Stone. Mai in un milione di anni avrei pensato che altri paesi avrebbero potuto essere interessati nella pubblicare i miei libri. È stata un'esperienza meravigliosa e anche se i libri sono stati tradotti in 18 lingue differenti, ho ricevuto più messaggi favolosi dai lettori italiani che da quelli di altri paesi. E mi piace ricevere ogni singolo messaggio.

• Cosa le piace fare quando non scrive? 
• What you like to do when you're not writing? 
• When I’m not writing I love to catch up on some reading. I also tend to binge on reality TV programmes and enjoy The Real Housewives franchise. I love to go driving in the car and find new places, especially stunning scenic views that just blow the cobwebs away and help press the refresh button. 
• Quando non scrivo mi piacere recuperare con la lettura. Tendo anche a farmi una scorpacciata di reality TV e mi piace il franchising "The Real Housewives" (reality show americano). Mi piace guidare la macchina e trovare nuovi posti, specialmente stupende vedute panoramiche che soffiano via le raga tele e mi aiutano a ricaricarmi.

• Che genere le piace leggere e qual è stata la sua ultima lettura? Ha un autore/autrice che ammira particolarmente? 
• What kind of genre do you like to read? There is an author that you admire and prefer? 
• I don’t have as much time to read as I would like but when I do I tend to read crime. My favourite authors are Val McDermid, Carol O’Connell and Karin Slaughter. 
• Non ho molto tempo per leggere come mi piacerebbe, ma quando lo faccio tendo a leggere gialli. I miei autori preferiti sono Val McDermid, Carol O'Connell e Karin Slaughter.

• Ha mai letto qualcosa di Italiano? Se sì, cosa ne pensa? 
• Have you ever read Italian books? What do you think of them? 
• I haven’t yet had the opportunity to read Italian books but I would certainly like to in the future. 
• Non ho ancora avuto l'opportunità di leggere libri italiani, ma mi piacerebbe certamente farlo in futuro.
